Professional Summary

Gary Voelker, Ph.D. is a professor in the Texas A&M University Department of Ecology and Conservation Biology, as well as faculty Curator of birds at the departments Biodiversity Research and Teaching Collections. His research and interests lie primarily in the fields of systematics and biogeography, with a heavy focus on birds; more recently, he and his students have worked on systematics and biogeography of all other vertebrate lineages, as well as avian malaria and most recently microbiome studies related to pesticide impacts on bird populations. He has published over 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals or edited volumes, and was co-editor of the textbook Ornithology: foundation, analysis and application. He serves as an associate editor for Ibis (International Journal of Ornithology) and Diversity.
