Professional Summary

Javier Ruiz-Pérez, Ph.D. is a postdoctoral research associate in the Texas A&M University Department of Ecology and Conservation Biology. He is an archaeologist-paleoecologist and a phytolith specialist with field experience in Bolivia, Brazil, India and Spain. His research is mostly focused on tropical South America, where he has been investigating past anthropogenic land use and indigenous farming systems. Currently, he is studying the millennial-scale role of fire in shaping forest-savanna mosaics by conducting field research in the eastern lowlands of Bolivia.
