Professional Summary

Carol Loopstra, Ph.D. is an associate professor in the Texas A&M Department of Ecology and Conservation Biology. Her research interests are in the field of loblolly pine genomics and molecular biology with strong interests in understanding responses to water-deficit-stress and the development of tools to help tree breeders, especially in Texas and surrounding states. Another area of interest is how gene expression varies within and between individuals and how differences in expression lead to variation in adaptation or phenotypic traits. Loopstra has been involved in grants or other funding totaling $47,225,226 with $2,495,294 attributed to her accounts. Loopstra has a strong interest in undergraduate education, has taught Forest Trees of North America since 2000 and developed and teaches Forest Tree Physiology and Breeding. She has had 17 graduate students graduate including 7 PhD students and 10 master’s students. She is the Section Editor-in-Chief of the Genetics and Molecular biology section of the journal Forests.
