Dr. Fujiwara’s research interest is in quantitative population ecology, with a particular emphasis on understanding the dynamics of fish and wildlife populations. Dr. Fujiwara’s studies focus on individual and population level processes. Dr. Fujiwara advises and mentors both undergraduate and graduate researchers through the Population Ecology Lab and in 2018, Dr. Fujiwara was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award, from the former Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences. Int he past, Dr. Fujiwara has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses relating to ecology and fisheries sciences.

The Population Ecology Lab
Research at The Population Ecology Lab is often motivated by available data or existing biological and management-related questions. The research team tries to match them with existing ecological theories, appropriate mathematical models, and rigorous statistical methods. This research style is motivated by my belief that the major problem in quantitative ecology today is not a lack of data, available theories, mathematical tools, or statistical methods, but rather from mismatches among these four components.
