Professional Summary
Masami Fujiwara received his Ph.D. in Biological Oceanography from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Joint Program in 2002. Fujiwara joined the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences at Texas A&M University as an Assistant Professor in 2009 and is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Ecology and Conservation Biology. Fujiwara teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in population ecology. He made significant contributions to the development of the new undergraduate curriculum for the Department of Ecology and Conservation Biology in 2020 as the chair of the curriculum development committee. Fujiwara’s research focuses on the integration of ecological theories, modern data analysis methods, and existing data to determine the drivers of population fluctuations and to develop predictive models for natural populations. He has received more than $2 million total in external research funding from various sources including National Science Foundation and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Fujiwara is currently on the editorial board of PLoS One. Fujiwara has written 56 peer-reviewed journal articles in various journals including Nature, Science, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Ecology Letters, and Ecology.
