Professional Summary

Dr. Hala is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Marine Biology (Galveston campus) and adjunct faculty at ECCB. His research involves studying the body-burdens and toxicology of legacy and emerging man-made pollutants in the biota of aquatic ecosystems. His latest funded projects are studying the toxicology of PFAS pollutants in the fish from Galveston Bay, and the bioaccumulation of microplastics in shellfish and fish from Matagorda Bay. These projects aim to increase our understanding of the adverse biological effects of these emerging pollutants in coastal/marine ecosystems.
